USAA Honored for Its Commitment to Preventing Veteran Homelessness
U.S.VETS recognizes USAA with its Community Impact Award for efforts to prevent veteran homelessness through affordable housing, financial education and long-term support
A safe place to call home can change the course of a veteran’s life. Yet on any given night, more than 32,000 veterans across the country are experiencing homelessness, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. While progress has been made, the need for affordable housing and financial support remains, particularly for veterans working to establish lasting stability.
USAA and U.S.VETS are working together to address that need by combining affordable housing investments with financial education, employment resources and other services that help veterans build more secure futures. This work is part of Honor Through Action, a national advocacy movement founded by USAA to drive meaningful, measurable change on the issues that matter most to military service members, veterans and their families.
The partnership was recognized at U.S.VETS’ National SALUTE Gala on Nov. 5, 2026, where Brian Goldman, Chief Risk Officer at USAA, accepted the Community Impact Award on behalf of the company.
“Taking care of the military community means understanding the full picture of what veterans and their families need to thrive,” Goldman said. “That’s what makes our partnership with U.S.VETS so meaningful. It is about much more than ensuring that our veterans have a roof over their head or a job. Together, we are helping them and their families maintain a strong financial foundation so they have lasting peace of mind. That is incredibly rewarding.”
Building Communities Where Veterans Can Thrive
Across West Los Angeles and Prescott, Arizona, USAA has invested $89.9 million to support the development of 233 affordable homes for veterans, alongside services that help residents build connections and pursue their goals. U.S.VETS serves as both co-developer and supportive services provider for these communities, embedding case management and on-site support directly into the housing it helps build.
“Investing in affordable housing is about more than creating places to live. It’s about helping build communities where veterans have the resources and opportunities to succeed,” said Brett Seybold, Chief Financial Officer at USAA. “Our work with U.S.VETS reflects how we’re putting that approach into action and a long-term commitment to making those investments count, both for the veterans who call these communities home and for those accessing support nationwide.”
Beyond Housing: Building Financial Resiliency
The partnership also reaches veterans beyond these housing communities. Through the U.S.VETS financial resiliency program, veterans and their families can access financial coaching, budgeting assistance, employment training and benefits navigation. With USAA’s support, the program is designed to reach more than 50,000 veterans and family members nationwide.
“USAA has been a true partner in our mission both as a funder and collaborator in building what comes next,” said Darryl Vincent, President and CEO of U.S.VETS. “From financing veteran housing on the West LA VA campus to launching our first financial resiliency initiative, USAA is helping us move from responding to homelessness to preventing it before it starts.”
