Helping Members’ Dollars Go Further
February 16, 2026
The cost of everyday life keeps climbing and families are feeling the pressure. And for our military members and their families, facing the unique challenges of deployments, relocations and transitions to civilian life can compound financial stress. At USAA, we want to help members understand what is driving these rising costs, what we are doing to mitigate these costs, and how they can manage their household budget and make sound financial decisions.
Taking Care of Our Own
Today’s higher cost of living is a shift affecting nearly every household, yet members and their families are not facing these challenges alone.
We are focused on real progress for our members, today and over the long term. Our disciplined approach helps us manage costs responsibly, so you can count on protection when you need it.
- Stabilizing and reducing auto rates for millions of members’ auto policies in 2026.
- Increasing the USAA SafePilot® participation discount to 15%.
- While cost pressures have led many insurers to scale back coverage or exit high-risk markets, USAA remains in every state because serving members is our mission.
- Showing up during government shutdown and federal pay disruptions, providing $450 million in financial relief in 2025 alone. We stand ready to support eligible impacted members when federal pay disruptions occur.
- Advanced support for military families through our $500 million Honor Through Action commitment and established a Policy and Alliance team to advocate for practical policy solutions that protect access to coverage.
Helping Members Take Action Every Day through Smart Habits
Military families can take practical steps to reduce costs and lower risk through education, outreach, coverage reviews and safety programs.
Programs Members Can Enroll In:
- Safe Pilot rewards drivers with discounts on their auto premiums depending on how safely or how much they drive. USAA SafePilot® and USAA SafePilot Miles™ can lower costs by an average of $203 – roughly the cost of groceries for a family of four for a week.
- New SafePilot® participants can earn up to a 15% discount by opting in to the program.
- Smart-Home Prevention can detect problems before they turn into expensive emergencies. Connected Home provides smart devices like water leak detectors, thermostats, and alarms, which can lead to additional discounts on home insurance premiums.
Member Advice and Tools
Budgeting tools can make a big difference. Even simple spending trackers and monthly planning features can help families stay on top of rising prices, especially when paired with regular check-ins on insurance coverage, deductibles, and potential savings opportunities.
- Insurance Health Check ensures coverage, deductibles and discounts remain aligned to your lifestyle so you can help protect your family’s financial stability.
- Better Budgeting can help families stay ahead of rising prices.
Families are not facing today’s higher cost of living alone. USAA is by your side with prevention, education, relief programs and advocacy to help you navigate higher costs and stay protected.
Responsibly Managing the Association
While we cannot control every external factor, USAA focuses on what we can control: negotiating reasonable repair prices, strengthening supplier relationships and investing in prevention to help reduce losses before they happen.
Importantly, we focus on being good stewards of your Association. USAA earns enough to operate and invest in products, service and competitive pricing. For every dollar of insurance premium we earn, we make 7 cents in pretax income, which is reinvested in our Association and members. The rest is spent on paying claims and underwriting expenses. And when we do well, members benefit through financial rewards, which was $3.8 billion in 2025 — our highest return in history.
This disciplined, long-term approach helps us manage costs responsibly so you can count on protection when you need it.
